Datti Baba-Ahmed, the 2023 vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has accused the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led opposition coalition of deceiving Nigerians with false hopes of national rescue.

“They are deceiving us,” Baba-Ahmed said during an appearance on Politics Today aired by Channels Television on Friday.

Baba-Ahmed, who was the running mate to Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential race, which was ultimately won by former Lagos governor Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), declared his readiness to again run alongside Obi in 2027.

Despite Peter Obi’s recent alignment with key political figures in the ADC coalition including David Mark, Atiku Abubakar, Nasir el-Rufai, Rotimi Amaechi, and Rauf Aregbesola Baba-Ahmed made it clear that he hopes Obi remains with the Labour Party and leads its presidential ticket in the next election.

“I’m in the Labour Party. I’m a Peter Obi man. I still want Peter Obi to come back to the Labour Party and contest the 2027 election,” he stated.

When asked whether he would consider a vice-presidential slot again, Baba-Ahmed said his decision would depend on the state of the nation and the integrity of the electoral process by 2027.

“If Nigeria is still around and there is an electoral system to follow. My love for Nigeria is undying, and I would appropriately associate with any group and individuals that are like-minded to restore Nigeria,” he said.

Baba-Ahmed concluded by saying there are only two individuals he would consider deputising. “The first one has not said anything. The second one is Peter Obi. I’m always with Peter Obi until he decides not to [run],” he affirmed.
