The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has assured Nigerians that key political figures Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi will remain united in their shared mission to transform the country, regardless of who clinches the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.

This assurance came from Jackie Wayas, the ADC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, in an exclusive interview with Vanguard on Monday.

Wayas revealed that the party is currently weighing whether to zone its presidential ticket or conduct an open primary. According to her, the decision will be guided by internal negotiations and the recommendations of the National Executive Committee (NEC) ahead of the party’s National Convention.

“There is a lot of pressure both to zone and not to zone the presidential ticket,” she noted. “But only one candidate will emerge, and the choice will ultimately reflect our internal consensus and NEC guidelines.”

Emphasizing the urgency of national rescue, Wayas said the ADC’s top priority is to address Nigeria’s current crises. She highlighted that the alliance among Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi is rooted in a collective commitment to national transformation, not personal ambition.

“The pact to save and transform Nigeria is what binds these leaders,” she explained. “It’s what brought them together, and it’s what will keep them united.”

In addition, Wayas disclosed that the party is forming a policy committee to craft a comprehensive governance blueprint, including specific deliverables for the first 100 days in office. These pledges will focus on the economy, electoral reform, and national security.

“We’re working on credible, impactful policy ideas that can guide the party and its candidates in rebuilding the nation,” she said.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the ADC is setting an ambitious goal of mobilizing 35 million voters. This target, Wayas said, is within reach due to the party’s growing membership and expectations of a seamless voter registration process by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

“ADC is growing daily with new members from across the globe. Once INEC ensures a smooth registration and PVC collection process, our 35 million voter goal is very realistic,” she added.

In her closing remarks, Wayas summed up the party’s driving force: “Right now, the ADC is on a mission to rebuild Nigeria. It’s all about saving the country. It’s Nigeria first in everything we do.”
