Former chairman of the Northern Elders Forum, Hakeem Baba Ahmed, has expressed concern that the All Progressives Congress may lose the 2027 general election and refuse to accept defeat.
Baba Ahmed said Nigerians are increasingly aware of their political rights and the power of their votes, insisting that the future of the country must not be decided against the will of the people.
He stressed that the people’s mandate must prevail in 2027, adding that no government is bigger than the citizens it serves.
According to him, Nigerians are awake and determined to ensure that their choices are respected in the electoral process.
Baba Ahmed, who also serves as national chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party, has previously worked as a special adviser on political matters.
His remarks highlight concerns about the conduct of the 2027 general election and whether political parties will respect the outcome if the results do not favour them.
He maintained that the wishes of voters must take priority over the interests of any political party, warning against attempts to impose an outcome that does not reflect the choices made at the ballot box.
Baba Ahmed also stressed the importance of protecting the country’s democratic process, noting that the public’s decision should remain central to determining who governs Nigeria.
As preparations for the 2027 elections continue to draw attention, expectations remain high for a credible process in which citizens can freely choose their leaders and have their votes counted accurately.
His comments add to the ongoing debate about electoral transparency, public confidence and the responsibility of political parties to respect the results announced after voting.
Baba Ahmed’s central message is that political power ultimately rests with the people and that no ruling party should place its interests above the electorate’s decision.
