The coalition of opposition leaders working to unseat President Bola Tinubu has officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, abandoning earlier plans to align with the unregistered All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the coalition, announced the decision on Thursday following a high-level meeting in Abuja. According to him, the coalition had “rested everything concerning the ADA,” signaling a definitive break from the proposed alliance.
The ADC leadership also urged key political figures including Peter Obi of the Labour Party, Nasir El-Rufai of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Senator Aminu Tambuwal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to resign from their current parties and fully commit to the coalition’s new platform.
The Abuja meeting drew prominent political heavyweights such as National Chairman David Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal, and former Rivers State governor Chibuike Amaechi.
On preparations for 2027, Abdullahi confirmed that all presidential aspirants within the coalition had pledged to support whoever emerges from the primaries. He added that the National Working Committee (NWC) will soon release dates for primaries in Osun and Ekiti States ahead of their off-cycle governorship elections.
