Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has reaffirmed that his involvement in the ongoing political coalition ahead of the 2027 elections is rooted in a commitment to combatting bad governance, hunger, and poverty not personal political ambition.

Responding to questions from journalists concerning a rumored agreement to run as Vice President under former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in 2027, Obi steered clear of confirming or denying the report. Allegedly, Atiku has proposed to serve only one term and is open to formalizing this pact in writing.

Speaking during a visit to Kubwa, Abuja, where he donated to a school and hospital project initiated by the Anglican Church, Obi reiterated his focus. “You can make of the report what you want, but I’m in a coalition against bad governance, hunger, and poverty,” he said.

His comments highlight a prioritization of national development and public welfare over political positioning.

Separately, Obi addressed public speculation surrounding his recent attendance at the inauguration of Pope Leo XIV in Rome. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), he clarified that the visit was spiritual in nature and consistent with his long-standing practice of attending significant global events, dispelling rumors of any political motive.
