Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 elections, has issued a firm call for the removal of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), declaring that the worsening situation in Nigeria gives the people no other option.

In a recent interview, Baba-Ahmed described a growing national frustration that transcends class and occupation. According to him, victims of insecurity, market traders, industrialists, transporters, farmers, and the youth are all united by shared hardship, and that unity, he argues, is a clear sign that change is overdue.

“Nigerians don’t have a choice APC must go. Even APC doesn’t have a choice APC must go,” he said pointedly.

He emphasized internal fractures within the APC itself, suggesting that the diminishing public presence of influential figures such as former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje is symptomatic of a deeper crisis within the ruling party.

“Where was Ganduje last week? Where is he today?” Baba-Ahmed asked rhetorically, hinting at what he described as the party’s crumbling structure.

He continued:
“Victims of insecurity don’t have a choice APC must go. Spenders of the Naira, industrialists, tradespeople, market men and women, farmers, transporters, the youth nobody in Nigeria has a choice anymore. APC must go.”

His comments come at a time when his former running mate, Peter Obi, has officially aligned with a new political coalition aiming to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections. The coalition, made up of several opposition leaders, has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its platform for mobilization.

Peter Obi, who ran for president under the Labour Party in 2023, has long advocated for building strong alliances to confront systemic poverty, insecurity, and political stagnation in Nigeria. He recently stressed that no single party or figure can achieve genuine transformation alone, and collaboration is now essential for national recovery.

Joining Obi in the broad opposition front are several high-profile political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-FCT Minister Nasir El-Rufai, and former Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi. All are expected to play critical roles in mounting a formidable challenge to President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

With 2027 still two years away, the political landscape in Nigeria is already heating up, as discontent across the country fuels calls for a new direction. Baba-Ahmed’s declaration is one of the strongest yet in the growing chorus demanding an end to APC’s reign.
