Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, boldly stating that he is confident in defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, provided he secures the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking during a live session on X Spaces on Saturday, Amaechi made a series of bold claims, distancing himself from electoral malpractice and asserting his readiness to take on Tinubu at the polls.

“I tell you, I’ve not had an election against Tinubu. I know Tinubu very well. I know his strengths. I know his weaknesses. And I know that if allowed to fly the flag of ADC, I will defeat Tinubu for sure,” Amaechi said.

The former Rivers State Governor, who previously served under the All Progressives Congress (APC), took a critical stance against the ruling party, claiming he has consistently rejected offers to participate in APC’s election planning committees due to ethical concerns.

“I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging,” he stated emphatically.

“In fact, all the appointments given to me by APC to join election planning committees, I have refused to participate. There was no one I participated in. Why? Because I know what they discuss. I listen to them. I hear them. If I get the ticket, I will reveal those things.”

Amaechi’s remarks signal a potential realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape, as speculation continues to grow around his next move ahead of the 2027 general elections. His vocal criticism of APC’s internal strategies and direct challenge to President Tinubu mark a significant shift, potentially setting the stage for a high-stakes political contest.
