The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Kabiru Turaki has called for the immediate resignation of the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking during a packed press briefing, Turaki accused the election chief of showing clear bias and open support for the ruling All Progressives Congress.

He said this perceived closeness raises serious concerns about the credibility of the next national vote.

Turaki argued that any election overseen by a figure seen as partisan cannot be trusted by the public.

He insisted that neutrality is essential for a free and fair electoral process and warned that anything less could damage confidence in the system.

He stressed that real change in Nigeria will only come if opposition parties unite and if elections are conducted in a transparent and credible manner.

According to him, unity across opposition groups and a trusted electoral body remain the only realistic path to national progress.
