Yunusa Tanko, the chief spokesperson of the 2023 LP Presidential Campaign Council, revealed in an interview with the Nigerian Tribune that the Labour Party (LP), led by Peter Obi is currently in discussions with the NNPP, led by presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as part of preparations for the 2027 presidential election. Tanko also mentioned that ongoing discussions are taking place with the presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar.

He emphasized that no formal coalition plans have been made as of now.

Tanko, a representative of the Labour Party, clarified that the party is not part of the seven opposition political parties forming a coalition against the All-Progressives Congress (APC).

The coalition, named Concerned Political Parties (CCPP), was established to resist the ruling party’s alleged plan to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.

The seven parties in the coalition are the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

Tanko expressed unawareness of any coalition against the ruling party and mentioned that the Labour Party was not contacted for discussions regarding this matter. While acknowledging talks with two other political parties, including the NNPP led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and ongoing discussions with the PDP’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, Tanko stated that the seven-party coalition was not on the Labour Party’s radar, and they were not invited to participate.
