Former Nigerian Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar has warned Nigerians not to sell their votes during the 2027 Nigerian General Elections.

He gave the warning during a Ramadan Tafsir held at his residence in Minna, where he spoke about the importance of responsible voting.

Vote Selling Is Against Islamic Teachings

Abdulsalami said selling votes is wrong and against religious teachings. He explained that it is considered Haram, an Arabic term used in Islamic law to describe actions that are forbidden, unlawful, or sinful.

He stressed that people should see their votes as a powerful tool for choosing credible and responsible leaders.

Politicians Urged to Avoid Dirty Politics

The former leader also advised politicians to conduct themselves peacefully during elections.

He urged them to avoid bitterness, hatred, character attacks, and mudslinging during campaigns. According to him, elections should be treated as a normal competition where there are winners and losers, not a do-or-die struggle.

Nigerians Facing Economic Hardship

Speaking about the situation in the country, Abdulsalami said many Nigerians are struggling because the economy is very difficult at the moment.

However, he praised wealthy individuals who are helping the poor and encouraged them to continue supporting those in need.

Muslims Told to Keep Ramadan Lessons

Abdulsalami also urged Muslims to remember and continue practicing the lessons learned during Ramadan.

He encouraged them to remain committed to the values and teachings of Islam both during and after the holy month.
