In a heated exchange, Hon. Obi Aguocha, the Labour Party representative for Umuahia/Ikwuano Federal Constituency, has called out Deputy Speaker of the Federal House, Ben Kalu, urging him to openly declare his ambition for the 2027 Abia Governorship election.

Aguocha’s remarks come in response to a viral video where Kalu vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would take control of Abia State in 2027.

Rumors have circulated about Kalu’s potential candidacy for the governorship, with many speculating that he intends to capitalize on APC’s national influence. While his supporters believe Kalu is a strong contender for the party’s ticket, critics are uncertain if he has the political clout to challenge the current Governor, Alex Otti, who has been praised for his reforms in Abia, including efforts to eliminate ghost workers and improve infrastructure.

Hon. Aguocha criticized Kalu for what he described as a disrespectful and reckless attack on Governor Otti, calling the Deputy Speaker’s statements an unnecessary display of arrogance. Aguocha emphasized that Abia State’s recent progress under Otti’s leadership should not be undermined by Kalu’s political ambitions.

Aguocha challenged Kalu to stop hiding behind party rhetoric and openly declare his governorship bid if that is his intention. He further assured that Abians would stand behind Governor Otti in 2027, recognizing his significant achievements in governance and development.

The political landscape in Abia is heating up as both sides prepare for the 2027 showdown.
