Renowned education technology expert and public intellectual, Dr. Usman Isyaku, has issued a stern warning concerning the political direction of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Taking to the social platform X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Isyaku expressed concern over what he described as a dangerously narrow and divisive political maneuver by Tinubu and his allies. In a pointed tweet, he wrote:
“The north will disappoint Mr. Southlokan big time.”

The remark, widely circulated and debated online, has drawn attention to growing tensions and distrust between political blocs in the north and south of the country. The term “Mr. Southlokan” appears to be a veiled reference to President Tinubu, who hails from Nigeria’s southwest and famously leveraged regional support under the slogan “Emi Lokan” in 2023 (meaning “It’s my turn”) during his presidential campaign.
NN News Media reported that Dr. Isyaku criticized the administration’s approach as a “southern turn” that risks alienating key northern political stakeholders ahead of the next general elections. He described this strategy as shortsighted and potentially destabilizing for national unity.
