Rivers State’s Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, recently voiced his concerns about the ongoing issues in the state.
He declared his unwavering commitment to govern the people uprightly, not on bended knees, but standing resolutely for what is right.
These statements were made during his visit to Sir Celestine Omehia’s home in the Ubima community, located in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers, over the past weekend.
Accompanied by esteemed local elders, Governor Fubara visited to extend his condolences to Sir Omehia, who had recently bid farewell to his mother after her long and fulfilled life.
During his visit, Fubara expressed, “We, a select group of the state’s respected elders, are here to support you and share in your sorrow. It’s crucial to show our empathy and love. Anyone who harbors hostility towards death is not in their right mind. We also celebrate with you for the well-lived and fulfilled life of Mama. We wish her a peaceful journey. May she rest well in her final abode.”
Governor Fubara underscored the significance of unity and resolve in safeguarding the spirit of Rivers State to the elders.
He criticized the destructive tendencies of divisive politics and underscored its detrimental effects on the state’s progress, calling for its elimination from the current political scene.
Governor Fubara stated, “Anyone who truly loves this state should not contribute, either directly or indirectly, to anything that will set us back. We will persist in supporting every cause that promotes the interests of our beloved Rivers State.”
He added, “I am pleased to say, and I’ve reiterated this time and again, it doesn’t matter how many people stand with me, I will always stand for the truth.”
“I will not, I repeat, I will not govern our dear state on bended knees. If that was the expectation, I would not fulfill it. I will govern our state standing upright, continually siding with what is right.”
He concluded, “However, politics of bitterness will lead us nowhere. So, I am grateful that at this point, we have a few of you who understand that Rivers State belongs to all of us. We must, therefore, unite to preserve the soul of this state.”
