A group of lawyers, under the auspices of Papaudo Chambers, have written the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, demanding the complete election results for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2003 to 2019 for the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
This was contained in a Freedom of Information (FoI) Act request dated 30th March 2023, and obtained by News Band.
The letter, jointly signed by Udoka Oguekwe Esq. A. E Odidi Esq. Udoka Oguekwe & Co., which did not indicate the purpose of the request, reads:
“This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act (F01) pursuant to Section 1 (1) (2011) for a copy of the documents containing the following information:
- The complete Local Government Results of the 774 (seven hundred and seventy-six) Local Governments in Nigeria, for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2003
- The complete Local Government Results of the 774 (seven hundred and seventy-six) Local Governments in Nigeria, for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2007
- The complete Local Government Results of the 774 (seven hundred and seventy-six) Local Governments in Nigeria, for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2011.
- The complete Local Government Results of the 774 (seven hundred and seventy-six) Local Governments in Nigeria, for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2015.
- The complete Local Government Results of the 774 (seven hundred and seventy-six) Local Governments in Nigeria, for the Presidential Election conducted in the year 2019.
“Sir, I request a waiver of all fees for this request. Disclosure of this Information is in public interest because it is likely to contribute to public understanding and confidence in the activities if the Government in general and the commission in particular.
“If you deny this request, please cite each specific exemption under the law that justifies the refusal to release the information.
“I look forward to your reply within 20 work days. Thank you for your consideration and continue to count on our fond regards.”
