National Vice President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide (Anambra), Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene has said that one of the greatest achievements of the new President General of the apex Igbo body, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu would be to galvanise the South East Governors’ Forum to become functional.
He stated that traditional rulers’ council and town unions in the zone all needed to be repositioned to effectively play their roles.
Ogene who spoke to Daily Sun in Enugu on the sideline of the just held Imeobi Ohanaeze declared that the emergence of the elder statesman and business mogul as leader of the Igbo at this critical moment of their history was one of the best things that ever happened to the race.
For him, the priority of the new President General should be to instil discipline in the Igbo system, protect their interest in Nigeria and more especially, ensure security of Ndigbo. He added that the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu, must be utmost.
“I think since the inception of Ohanaeze, this Imeobi meeting will go into the records of Ohanaeze. For the first time, we had governors and deputies of the five Igbo States physically present and for the first time, they endorsed a replacement.
“It is a good beginning. Sometimes people think that the Igbo are down; Igbo can never be down. Anytime you think they are down, within five minutes, you will see them in the sky. So, the bone has risen again. The current leadership with support will move mountains as far as Ohanaeze Ndigbo union is concerned.
“And this development has sent a signal to the hawks who think they can use the name of Ohanaeze to trade. Some of them get their support from false information they give to some governors but the whole governors were at the Imeobi meeting,” he stated.
