Civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, (HURIWA), on Friday, flayed the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) over his prolonged stay in the United Kingdom whilst bandits and terrorists continued to kill thousands of Nigerians, especially in Southern Kaduna.

HURIWA, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, said it is a gross act of irresponsibility that the President abdicated his constitutional function which majorly to secure lives and property to junket abroad whilst the nation is on fire.

The group also carpeted the rubberstamp 9th National Assembly for failure to impeach the President despite his abysmal performance in office in the last eight years.

Of late, bandits abducted one Franco Byoma in Kaduna State and killed him after reportedly collecting N8m ransom from his family. It was gathered that the Ahmadu Bello University Accounting graduate was kidnapped at Gumel community in Kachia Local Government Area of the state.

In the last eight years under Buhari, southern Kaduna aqnd the state in general have suffered unthinkable killings in the hands of herdsmen marauding as bandits. For in stance, the Kaduna State Government said 1,052 people were killed, 4,227 abducted and 648 were injured in 2022. A total number of 1,192 people were killed by bandits and 3,348 abducted across Kaduna State in year 2021, according to the state government. For first quarter of 2023, the state government said bandits killed 214 persons and abducted 746 others between January and March this year.

HURIWA’s Onwubiko said, “Whilst Nigeria is on fire, President Muhammadu Buhari is junketing all over the world. How tragic!

“The President started the trip on May 3, 2023 for the coronation of King Charles III and his wife, Camilla, as His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort of the United Kingdom respectively.

“However, he decided to extend it by one week after the event just to see his dentist in the United Kingdom. But killings go on in Nigeria. Residents and farmers are killed daily in Plateau, Benue and Southern Kaduna. Yet, the Ahmed Lawan led Senate and Gbajabiamila led stooges in House of Reps don’t want to impeach this clearly incapacitated President who can’t stop Nigerians from being killed. This is tragic.”
