Why El-Rufai proscribed Atyap Community Development Association a day before leaving office ~ by Steven Kefas
Apparently, Ex Kaduna Governor El-Rufai proscribed the Atyap Community Development Association an indigenous sociocultural organization BECAUSE the group viewed to resist the attempt by the governor to forcefully take their ancestral land and give it to Hausa and Fulani settlers in Zangon Kataf.
During a meeting at the government house two weeks ago, the Hausa and Fulani community in Zangon Kataft told the then-governor that the only condition for peace in the area is for him to use executive fiat to allocate land belonging to the indigenous people to them. El-Rufai was said to have consented to the suggestion of the Fulani and Hausa community.
The Atyap people who were also at the meeting rejected the plan and vowed to resist same.
One week later, on the eve of his leaving office, El-Rufai issued an executive order proscribing the Atyap Community Development Association, a lawful organization registered with CAC since 1989.
El-Rufai’s action further lends credence to claims by the indigenous people of Southern Kaduna that the ongoing genocide in the area is because of their land.
