Mike Ozekhome, SAN, a lawyer representing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has expressed concern regarding the Independent electoral body, INEC that winning 25% in FCT in a presidential election is a must.
According to Ozekhome, Bola Ahmed Tinubu did not receive the necessary 25% of the votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, so he should not have been declared the winner of the election.
However, some witnesses who gave testimony at the presidential election tribunal said Tinubu shouldn’t have been declared the winner because he didn’t receive the required percentage in the FCT.
Ozekhome made it clear that this observation is based on law and is not merely conjecture. He should have received a score of 25% in FCT to be named the winner, in a way that would sound natural to him.
The senior promoter further questioned Tinubu’s victory, pointing out that all evidence showed that he wasn’t the winner of the recently concluded official political decision.
He contended that INEC was hasty to certify Tinubu as the victor despite signs that he fell short of the necessary 25% of votes cast in the FCT.
