Ondo State House of Assembly has received the letter of medical leave from Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

Informing lawmakers on Tuesday of the development, Speaker Olamide Oladiji explained that Mr Akeredolu had embarked on a 21-day leave for medical treatment abroad. He will be away from June 7 to July 6, 2023.

According to the letter, the leave, which commenced on June 7, extends to July 6, 2023, due to the public holidays on June 12 (Democracy Day) and Eid-el-Kabir (June 28 and 29, 2023).

Mr Akeredolu informed the parliament that he had designated Deputy Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa to act as the governor during the period of his treatment, saying he will be resuming work upon completion of his medical leave.

Mr Akeredolu, who was described as a peace lover by Mr Oladiji, took ill last year and has remained hospitalised. The governor has yet to share details of his protracted illness with state residents, with his wife Betty alleging he was poisoned by his mistress.

Though, both the governor and the mistress, Bunmi Ademosun, denied Mrs Akeredolu’s claim.
