Abia State’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ngozi Felix, commended Governor Alex Otti on Friday for appointing more women to permanent secretary positions in the state’s public service.
In a statement from Umuahia, she highlighted that these appointments reflect Governor Otti’s gender-sensitive approach and commended his continuous efforts in appointing women to various political and administrative roles since assuming office.
“Indeed, these appointments have proven that you are truly a He-For-She and gender champion governor, by ensuring greater participation of women in policymaking and governance.
“As you champion equality, you make our state and society better for all,” she stated.
Additionally, the commissioner extended congratulations to the recently appointed permanent secretaries, urging them to wholeheartedly commit to their roles and actively contribute to the achievements of the Labor Party-led government.
It is understood that out of the 24 newly appointed permanent secretaries, 13 are women.
In a recent turn of events, the Supreme Court delivered a ruling regarding the removal of Governor Otti in Abia.
The appeal filed by Okey Ambrose Ahiwe, the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate against Governor Alex Otti in the March 18 governorship election in Abia State, was denied by the Supreme Court.
After losing to the Labour Party candidate, Ahiwe filed a lawsuit on October 30 to become a party interested in the contentious ruling of a Kano-based High Court.
Nonetheless, a Kano State court of appeals has overruled the trial court’s decision in a new decision.
