The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published a list of 40 polling units across Imo State where elections will not take place during the governorship election on November 11, 2023.

According to the electoral body, the affected polling units cut across 12 local government areas and were among the places that recorded over-voting and other infractions during the 2019 general elections.

INEC stated that the commission had canceled and excluded results from the 40 polling units after determining that the number of votes cast exceeded the number of accredited voters.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Imo, Sylvia Agu, warned that any result submitted from the listed polling units in the upcoming election will be rejected.

The commissioner advised registered voters in the affected areas to move to other polling units so they can participate in the governorship polls. She said voters can locate suitable voting points using the polling unit locator on INEC’s website.

INEC published the names and details of all 40 polling units where elections have been canceled on its official website and social media platforms. The commission vowed to continue upholding the integrity of the electoral process in Imo state.
