The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Anambra State chapter, has announced Dave Akunyili as its new acting chairman.

The party’s new chairman was confirmed today in Awka at an event organised by NNPP Southeast Zonal Secretary, Izuchukwu Onwuekelu, and witnessed by Alhaji Aliyu Kwankwaso, acting Secretary, NNPP Enugu State.

Akunyili was appointed to replace Felix Chukwurah, who was expelled recently over alleged involvement in anti-party activities.

Onwuekelu stated that Akunyili was selected by the party loyalists in the state, which included members of the state executive, chairpersons of local government parties, and other influential individuals.

He further mentioned that the appointment of the interim chairman would necessitate the National Working Committee (NWC) endorsement.

“The national leadership of the party recognised that getting a state chairman is a step towards the harmonisation of the party structures in Anambra.

“The turnout of party stakeholders and faithful shows that they are supportive and loyal to the growth of the party under the leadership of Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso and the National Chairman, Alhaji Abba Kawu Alli,” he said.

Following his appointment as Acting Chairman, Akunyili addressed the party supporters and pledged his unwavering commitment to the cause of building a more robust NNPP that would bring freedom to the people of Anambra State.
