Court orders Matawalle to return official vehicles in his possession

The Federal High Court sitting in Sokoto has ordered former Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Matawalle, to return the official vehicles in his possession.

On Monday, the court dismissed a suit filed by Matawalle concerning the ownership of official vehicles he took when leaving office.

It is worth noting that in June, the police raided his residence and confiscated the vehicles in accordance with a court order.

The Federal High Court rejected former Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle’s claims over the ownership of official vehicles, according to the state government spokesman, Sulaiman Bala Idris.

Matawalle and his cabinet members had reportedly taken away all official vehicles belonging to the state government when leaving office.

Despite the state government’s demand for their return, legal action was initiated, resulting in the recovery of over 50 vehicles by the police.

The Federal High Court in Gusau initially granted an order for the vehicles’ return to Matawalle, but a subsequent case to enforce his right to own the property was dismissed by the Federal High Court in Sokoto, affirming the vehicles as the property of the Zamfara State government.

The government remains committed to recovering all assets rightfully belonging to the state.
