Senator Abdul Ningi criticized the National Assembly leadership for quickly passing the N27.5 trillion budget for a second reading without having copies of the document. He expressed concern over the lack of access to the budget details, emphasizing the need for lawmakers to thoroughly review and understand the budget before its passage.

NN News Media recall that NNPP lawmaker Galambi has accused Tinubu of deceiving the National Assembly by presenting an empty sectoral allocation breakdown box during his budget presentation. Galambi criticized the National Assembly for being complicit in the act, alleging that its leadership deliberately collaborated with Tinubu to deceive lawmakers.

 The Senate had on Friday passed the 2024 Appropriation Bill presented before the joint session of the Senate and House of Representatives by President Bola Tinubu for a second reading.

 It was gathered that the Senators only spent two days debating the 43-paragraph speech presented by the President and the four-page lead debate by the Senate Leader, Senator Bamidele Opeyemi.

In interview with Vanguard, Senator Abdul Ningi criticized the National Assembly’s leadership for hastily passing the N27.5 trillion budget for a second reading without having copies of the document.

Ningi described the situation as strange and unprecedented, emphasizing that lawmakers debated the budget without any sectoral allocation breakdown or details of the 2024 budget.

He expressed concern that the essential process and rituals for scrutinizing the budget were being overlooked.
