The Rivers State Government has announced the decision to demolish the state assembly complex, citing expert advice.

According to Mr. Joseph Johnson, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, the building suffered structural defects due to a fire incident, making it unsuitable for human use.

The Governor, Simi Fubara, visited the site and, following the inspection, invited professionals to assess the building’s integrity. Based on their advice, the government decided to demolish the complex.

The government disclosed that the complex was attacked with explosive dynamites on the night of the incident, causing significant damage to its foundation. Visible cracks appeared on the walls, rendering the entire structure frail and unsafe for legislative activities.

Following an assessment by experts, the government received a warning that continuing to use the building in its current state would pose a serious risk, leading to the decision to demolish the complex.
