The Presidency has responded to assertions that President Bola Tinubu’s meetings with Governor Sim Fubara and Nyesom Wike, aimed at resolving the crisis in Rivers State, were politically motivated.
The resolution of the meeting included the withdrawal of court cases, dropping impeachment proceedings against the governor, recognizing Martin Amaewhule as speaker, and reinstating 27 defected lawmakers.
However, the eight-point resolution has faced criticism from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), elder statesman Edwin Clark, and other stakeholders, who deemed it unconstitutional.
In defense, presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale insisted that Tinubu’s intervention aimed at restoring peace, emphasizing the president’s role as the father of the nation.
Ngelale highlighted the necessity of compromise for the resolution, noting that the president was prepared to take decisive action if an agreement had not been reached.
The spokesperson concluded that the outcome brought relief to the people of Rivers, emphasizing the president’s commitment to fostering unity and resolving crises across the nation.
