In a bold move, six prominent elders from Rivers State, led by Victor Jumbo, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, have filed a lawsuit against Bola Tinubu at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The elders, including Senators Bennett Birabi and Andrew Uchendu, Rear Admiral O. P. Fingesi, Ann Kio Briggs, and Emmanuel Deinma, accuse Tinubu of coercing Governor Siminilaya Fubara into an unconstitutional agreement.
The legal action asserts that the agreement, signed on December 18, not only breaches the law but also amounts to a usurpation, nullification, and undermining of crucial provisions in the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The plaintiffs are seeking the court’s intervention to determine whether Tinubu, Governor Fubara, and the Rivers State Assembly have the right and entitlement to enter into any agreement that could potentially nullify or undermine the constitutional and legal potency of Section 109(I)(g) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
This legal showdown promises to shed light on the alleged constitutional infractions and could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape in Rivers State.
