In a heartfelt Christmas message conveyed through his X (formerly Twitter) handle on Sunday, Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), encouraged Nigerians to use the festive season to reflect on and appreciate the mercies of God upon the nation.

Acknowledging the significant challenges currently faced by Nigerians, the former Governor of Anambra State emphasized the importance of not letting these difficulties overshadow the opportunity to express gratitude for God’s numerous blessings.

Obi conveyed his warm wishes, saying, “My Dear compatriots, I wish you all a Merry Christmas as you join the Christendom to celebrate the anniversary of Jesus Christ. This season epitomizes love, peace, and joy for all mankind.”

While recognizing the hardships prevailing in the country and the adverse effects of government policies and poor governance, Obi urged Nigerians not to lose sight of the essence of the season and the significance of seeking God’s mercy in all circumstances.

“The difficulties and challenges of this moment should not, however, hinder us from appreciating the essence of our creation and the importance of seeking God’s mercy at all times,” he expressed.

Amidst the prevailing setbacks, Obi stressed that Nigerians should continue to aspire to overcome present difficulties and strive to realize the full potential of their blessed nation. He called on Christians to utilize the Christmas celebration as an opportunity to offer special supplications for the country, joining the global community in giving thanks for the abundant gifts bestowed upon the nation by God.

Further, Obi urged Nigerian leaders to embody the spirit of the season, emphasizing charity and compassion for the people, especially during these challenging times. He expressed, “For leaders, charity underlines compassion for the people in their present hardship. For us as a people, charity means sharing with our neighbors and the less privileged our material blessings.”

On this unique occasion, the LP flagbearer reassured the people that their adversity should not persist for too long, as they collectively envision a New Nigeria. Obi’s message resonates with the spirit of Christmas, encouraging unity, compassion, and hope for a brighter future.
