Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent figure in the Labour Party (LP), has strongly criticized the recent meeting convened by President Bola Tinubu in Abuja to address the political turmoil in Rivers State.

According to Okonkwo, the gathering on Monday served as a mere façade, disguising its true purpose of issuing directives to Governor Siminalayi Fubara on aligning himself as a subordinate to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and his political mentor, Nyesom Wike.

Okonkwo went further to assert that this meeting highlights the ominous threat posed by both the All-Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the democracy of Nigeria.

Expressing his bewilderment, the LP senior member questioned the rationale behind a governor and a party chieftain from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) seeking assistance from the leadership of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) to resolve their political issues.

In addition, Okonkwo took issue with President Tinubu’s guidance to the involved parties, accusing him of endorsing actions that violate the country’s constitutional provisions in resolving the political discord in Rivers State.

On Tuesday night, via his account on the X platform, Okonkwo voiced his concerns, stating, “Is there any doubt that both APC and PDP pose a significant threat to our democracy and the rule of law in Nigeria? How can a PDP Governor and a PDP Chieftain turn to the APC Leadership to find a solution to their problems?”

He continued, “How can the President of a country advise parties to disregard constitutional provisions to resolve political issues? This cadre of politicians has transformed Nigeria into a vast crime scene. Fubara was merely summoned to receive directives on how to subordinate himself as a servant or slave to the APC and his political godfather.”
