In response to speculations surrounding the alleged non-signing of the peace pact with President Bola Tinubu and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s signature on the resolution document has been confirmed by the State Commissioner for Information, Joseph Johnson.
The confirmation followed a meeting involving Tinubu, Governor Fubara, former Governor Peter Odili, and other key stakeholders in the state, culminating in the release of the resolution document on Monday.
Despite initial doubts, Johnson assured the public during a Channels TV interview on Wednesday that Governor Fubara is fully committed to the peace process, emphasizing the governor’s adherence to principles and his forthcoming actions in line with the agreement.
“The Bible that we all profess says we should pursue peace with all men at all costs. Mr. Governor is a stickler for the rules,” stated Johnson, adding that the governor would soon reveal approvals indicating his readiness for peace.
Criticism has arisen over President Buhari’s intervention in the internal affairs of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State. One of the resolutions from the meeting stipulated that Governor Fubara would acknowledge the 25 lawmakers in the state who defected from the PDP to the APC.
Despite this agreement, the PDP remains adamant, insisting that the seats of the defected lawmakers will stay vacant until a new election is conducted. The unfolding developments continue to fuel discussions about the role of external forces in the political dynamics of Rivers State.
