Former President Muhammad Buhari, acknowledging the concerning issue of drug abuse in his home state of Katsina, has urged all concerned citizens to unite in addressing the problem.
NN News Media recalled that despite Nigerians raised concern against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for alleged involvement in drug trafficking during his time in the United States, Buhari who ignored them is now focusing on combating the growing menace of drug abuse in Katsina.
The event, themed ‘Tackling the Menace of Drug Abuse Among Youths in Katsina State,’ served as a platform for the former president to express his worries about the rising instances of drug abuse among the youth and women in the state. Buhari stressed the importance of safeguarding the potential of the youth for the future prosperity of the nation.
“Our youths represent our beloved assets, and protecting them is crucial for our nation’s future. We can’t afford to watch drug abuse dismantle their potential and the country’s future,” urged Buhari, calling for collective action against the self-inflicted suffering of the youth.
Highlighting the pivotal role of the youth as future administrators of the state, Buhari encouraged them to believe in their abilities, face challenges, and assured them of collaborative support to overcome obstacles. He emphasized the need for leaders, educators, and policymakers to invest in youths through education, employment, and social support.
“This is not a challenge that one person can tackle alone; we all have a role in curbing drug abuse. Let’s all stand together for the sake of our youths and the prosperity of our state,” declared Buhari.
Governor Dikko Radda, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Faruq Lawal-Jobe, commended Buhari for his presence and the organizers for their significant efforts. The governor reassured the administration’s commitment to collaborating with relevant agencies to combat the challenges posed by drug abuse.
Sule Momodu, the Commander of Zone ‘F’ of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), urged the state government to provide additional patrol vehicles to enhance their operations in the fight against drug trafficking and distribution.
In conclusion, Buhari’s call for collective action, coupled with the commitment of local authorities and law enforcement agencies, signals a united front against drug abuse in Katsina, fostering hope for a brighter future for the state’s youth.
