In a resounding New Year declaration, Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), has called upon the government and private sector employers to prioritize the welfare of workers in 2024.

Ajaero vehemently criticized the federal government for leaving workers in want during the recent festive season, pledging that the NLC will ensure that all rightful entitlements reach the deserving hands of Nigerian workers.

Ajaero’s commitment is underscored by a promise to secure a living wage for workers in 2024 through collaborative efforts with the government and other stakeholders, focusing on obtaining a National Minimum Wage that aligns with humane income parameters and provides access to essential necessities for the average worker.

The NLC President outlined the organization’s dedication to building workplaces that safeguard workers’ rights and privileges while contributing to continuous national wealth creation.

The statement emphasizes a strong collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Labour, Nigeria Employers Consultative Association (NECA), and the Trades Union Congress (TUC), utilizing the tripartite process to regulate industrial relations and advocate for the passage of reviewed labor administration laws in the National Assembly.

In a bold proclamation, Ajaero predicts 2024 as a pivotal year, poised to witness the restoration of all that has been taken away from workers. The NLC warns private sector employers and government agencies owing Nigerian workers to be prepared to settle outstanding dues in the upcoming year. The stage is set for an intriguing and transformative year as the NLC leads the charge for a revolutionary change in workers’ welfare.
