Renowned Labour Party (LP) figure and actor, Kenneth Okonkwo, has passionately called on Catholic bishops to take a bold stance and request the resignation of Pope Francis, citing concerns about the recent permission for blessings on same-sex marriages.
Okonkwo emphasizes that mere rebellion is not sufficient; a demand for the Pope’s resignation is crucial to prevent a potential implosion within the Catholic Church, drawing parallels with the historical challenges faced by the Anglican Church.
Expressing his views through a statement posted on his X platform account last Friday, the legal expert argued that failure to prompt the Pope’s resignation could lead to a crisis similar to that experienced by the Anglican Church.
Pope Francis stirred controversy with a groundbreaking decree allowing Roman Catholic priests to bestow blessings on same-sex couples in specific situations.
While the Vatican’s doctrinal office clarified the conditions for such blessings, Okonkwo contends that the directive goes against scriptural teachings. He asserts that it is time for Pope Francis to step down, citing the unscriptural nature of the directive as the primary reason.
Okonkwo insists that the Pope’s departure is the only way to safeguard the integrity of the Catholic Church and avoid the pitfalls witnessed by the Anglican Church, referencing Ephesians 5:3 to emphasize the scriptural standpoint against such actions within the Church.
