The Rivers State House of Assembly has refuted claims made by Edison Ehie, a loyalist to Governor Sim Fubara, regarding his resignation as Speaker.
Despite Ehie’s assertion that he stepped down to foster peace between the governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the Assembly’s Clerk, Emeka Amadi, issued a clarification stating that Ehie was never elected as Speaker in the first place.
In a notice released by the Clerk, he addressed a letter dated December 29, 2023, purportedly written by Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie DSSRS, the member representing Ahoada East Constituency II. The letter, addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), claimed Ehie’s resignation from the position of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The notice emphasized, “I am therefore directed to call on the good people of Rivers State to disregard the false claim in this letter that is intended to mislead the unsuspecting public. Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie DSSRS was never at any time in the life of the Rivers State House of Assembly elected Speaker.” The Assembly urges the public to dismiss Ehie’s misleading assertion and clarifies that he has never held the position of Speaker in the legislative body.
