President Bola Tinubu has implemented a substantial 60% reduction in the travel expenditure of government officials within his administration. The announcement was made by Presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, during a briefing at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday.
As part of an overarching strategy to streamline costs, the directive will impact the offices of the President, Vice President, First Lady, Ministers, and heads of agencies. Ngelale emphasized that this decision is not a mere request but a firm directive from President Tinubu himself.
Under the new guidelines, the number of state entourages will be drastically reduced, affecting the President, Vice President, and all appointees. President Tinubu has imposed a stringent limit on official travel expenses, enforcing a 60% cut in expenditure. Notably, the President will now be accompanied by a maximum of 20 staff members on international trips.
Furthermore, each minister is restricted to only four accompanying staff members during foreign travel, while heads of agencies are now limited to just two. This move signals a significant shift towards frugality and accountability within the government.
President Tinubu has also taken a noteworthy stance on security arrangements during his visits to states within the country. He declared that he will no longer travel with extensive security delegations. Instead, he trusts the local security apparatus to ensure his safety, extending the same principle to the Vice President and other high-ranking government officials.
