Chidi Amadi, Chief of Staff to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has tendered his resignation, as officially confirmed by Commissioner for Information and Communications, Joseph Johnson.

The announcement, made on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, hinted at the governor’s imminent selection of a suitable replacement for the vacated position.

Amadi, a staunch supporter of the former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, now serving as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has deep ties to the political landscape of the region.

Johnson, in a statement to the PUNCH, remarked, “The former Chief of Staff, Hon Chidi Amadi, has resigned. The governor will announce another Chief of Staff at the appropriate time.”

With Amadi’s resignation, the tally of Wike’s loyalists departing from Fubara’s administration in the midst of the political discord between Fubara and his erstwhile political mentor, Wike, has now reached 10. Notably, Amadi, hailing from Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, remained inaccessible for comments when journalists attempted to reach him, leaving room for speculation.

As the state awaits the governor’s official announcement of a new Chief of Staff, calls have emerged for the appointment of Edison Ehie, a former factional Speaker of the state House of Assembly, to fill the crucial position. The political dynamics in Rivers State continue to evolve, keeping observers on the edge of anticipation for further developments in the unfolding scenario.
