Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, expressed disappointment in Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for not showing concern about the recent explosion in Ibadan.
Makinde conveyed his criticism during a meeting with Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), in his office in Ibadan on Monday.
Makinde highlighted that despite Atiku’s leadership position within the PDP, he neither called nor sent condolences regarding the explosion. The governor emphasized the absence of leadership from Atiku in response to the tragic incident.
During the meeting, Makinde informed Obi that President Bola Tinubu had reached out to him, and a federal government delegation had been sent to inspect the site of the explosion. Makinde also mentioned presenting a preliminary report to the president, with investigations still ongoing.
Acknowledging the visit, Makinde appreciated former Anambra governor Peter Obi for his sympathetic approach to the victims, emphasizing the importance of not politicizing the unfortunate incident.
The explosion in Dejo Oyelese Street in Ibadan resulted in five casualties, 77 people sustaining varying degrees of injury, and damage to 58 houses.
