Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has denied reports of an assassination attempt on his life on Sunday.

The Governor, in the clarification, said the reports about an assassination attempt on him on Sunday evening while travelling from Lokoja to Abuja were not true.

Bello explained that what happened was a misunderstanding between some members of his convoy and the military.

According to him, it was not an attempt on his life, and he had already arrived safely in Abuja.

Earlier reports had claimed Governor Bello escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday evening, while on his way to an official event in Abuja.

The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, was quoted in a statement to have said the attackers, who were clad in military uniforms, ambushed the governor’s envoy and started shooting at his vehicle.

He said the attack was foiled by the quick intervention of security agents, stressing that security officers at the national level would investigate the incident.

The commissioner, therefore, called on the citizens of the state to remain vigilant and report all suspicious movements to relevant authorities.
