In an unexpected development, six legislators from the Enugu State House of Assembly, previously affiliated with the Labour Party (LP), have formally switched their allegiance to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The disclosure was made during a plenary session at the Assembly Legislative Complex in Enugu on Thursday.

The Speaker, Chief Uche Ugwu, unveiled their decision by reading out a letter during the session. The list of defectors includes:

  1. Mr. Ejike Eze, representing Igbo-Eze North 1 constituency
  2. Mr. Johnson Ugwu, representing Enugu North constituency
  3. Ms. Princess Ugwu, representing Enugu South Rural constituency
  4. Mr. Pius Ezeugwu, representing Nsukka West constituency
  5. Mr. Amuka Williams, representing Igbo-Etiti East constituency
  6. Mr. Osita Eze, representing Oji River constituency

This development indicates a considerable change in Enugu State’s political dynamics, reinforcing the PDP’s supremacy in the area. Consequently, the Labour Party’s influence in Enugu state seems to have significantly diminished.
