Gunfire rang out in the streets of Kogi State on Wednesday as security operatives attempted to arrest former Governor Yahaya Bello.

The incident occurred as current Governor Usman Ododo was leaving Bello’s residence, where officials from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had been attempting to make an arrest for several hours.

However Ododo was able to summgled the former Governor Yahaya Bello out of his residence amidst an attempted EFCC). The incident caused panic and a scramble for safety among bystanders.

According to sources, the security operatives had been unable to secure their mission and had called for backup support from the Police and Department of State Services (DSS). The EFCC officials had reportedly planned to forcefully arrest Bello, but as he was leaving in his vehicle, security operatives who had been on standby for hours opened fire.

The sound of gunshots sent protesters, journalists, onlookers, and passers-by scrambling for safety. The situation remains tense as the EFCC continues its efforts to arrest Bello, who has been accused of financial misconduct during his tenure as governor.

Governor Ododo, who had been at Bello’s residence for a private meeting, was not injured in the incident. The circumstances surrounding the shootout and the reasons for Bello’s arrest are still under investigation.
