Umar Damagum has been reaffirmed as the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the endorsement by the National Executive Council (NEC) on Thursday.
The 98th NEC session of the PDP took place at the NEC Hall within the party’s national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, in Abuja. In attendance were key figures including the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, who presided over the meeting; former Vice President and PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; and former Vice President, Namadi Sambo.
Also present were state governors such as Bala Mohammed (Bauchi State), Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Ahmed Fintiri (Adamawa State), Ademola Adeleke (Osun State), Sim Fubara (Rivers State), and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, among others.
Earlier, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) had raised concerns about the continued tenure of Damagum and National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, labeling it as illegal and against party regulations. During the BoT meeting at the party Headquarters in Abuja, the PDP BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, emphasized the importance of addressing the party’s internal issues to effectively lead the nation towards progress and unity.
Wabara highlighted the critical need for the party to unite and navigate the challenges facing the country, stressing the urgency for the PDP to consolidate its position and provide a strong alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
