Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, recently shared his experiences following his visits to Madarasatul Hidayyatul Auladi Muslimima Kawo, Kaduna, FOMWAN Hospital in Badarawa, Kaduna, and the College of Nursing Sciences at St Gerald Hospital, Kaduna.

St Gerald Hospital, established in 1957, is among the oldest healthcare facilities in Northern Nigeria. The College of Nursing Sciences was subsequently established at the same location. Today, the College boasts a student population of approximately a thousand, continuing its mission to educate nurses who are integral to our health sector. In support of this mission, Obi contributed N10 million to aid in the training of additional healthcare professionals.

Obi emphasized the importance of health as a key contributor to national development and a significant factor in the human development index. He advocated for continued investment in the human infrastructure of the health sector, particularly in the education and encouragement of healthcare professionals. He believes that by investing in the training of more health workers, we can strengthen our health sector, thereby contributing effectively to our human and national development.

Obi urged governments, donor agencies, and other Nigerians to support the noble cause of training more nurses and healthcare professionals, which he sees as crucial for the country’s ultimate development. He stressed the importance of building a functional health sector in our journey towards a New Nigeria, a goal he insists is both achievable and imminent.
