The American International School in Abuja has confirmed the refund of $760,000 paid in advance by the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, for his children’s education.
This development comes after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced the receipt of the refund on Friday. The school’s Head, Greg Hughes, clarified that contrary to some media reports, the institution had already turned over the funds, as recently confirmed by the EFCC Chairman.
“Our compliance to remit these funds underscores our commitment to upholding institutional integrity and our respect for the national institutions of Nigeria,” Hughes said in a statement on Saturday.
The school further explained that upon learning that the school fees were part of an ongoing case with the EFCC, they immediately turned over the funds in compliance with the federal commission’s request. The school has also stated that it will refrain from making any further comments on the current matter between Bello and the EFCC.
This incident highlights the school’s dedication to maintaining transparency and cooperating with the relevant authorities in Nigeria.
