President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent call for embracing Nigeria’s cultural diversity to enhance socio-economic growth has sparked controversy.

Critics on social media question the sincerity of Tinubu’s message, pointing to the perceived dominance of Yoruba appointments in key government positions under his leadership.

The appointment of individuals from the Yoruba ethnic group to prominent roles such as Chief of Staff, CJN, Head of Service, AGF/Minister of Justice, CBN Governor, CG Immigration, CG Customs, Police IG, FIRS Chairman, Accountant General, EFCC, COAS and others has raised concerns among Nigerians. This has led to debates on the inclusivity and representation of other ethnic groups in the country’s leadership.

Tinubu reiterated his stance on cultural diversity during his address at the chieftaincy ceremony of Chief (Dr.) Sulaiman Adebola Adegunwa, the newly installed Asiwaju of Ijebuland, in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima and accompanied by Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, Tinubu’s message was met with mixed reactions from the audience.
