On April 14, 2024, Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, expressed his joy in recognizing the accomplishments of two exceptional Nigerian women who have excelled in their respective fields through dedication and a relentless pursuit of excellence.

The first is Princess Oluchukwu Owowoh, who has made history as the inaugural Nigerian Female Officer Cadet to graduate from the esteemed Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, the British Army’s top Officer Training Centre.

The second is Eni Aluko, who has broken barriers by becoming the first black woman to own a football club in Italy. Previously a sports director for Aston Villa and Angel City, Aluko is now part of Mercury 13, a $100 million ownership group that has purchased a majority stake in FC Como Women, a northern Italy-based club, thus granting her ownership status.

Obi, known for his tradition of honoring extraordinary Nigerians excelling in various professions, extends his congratulations to these two women. Their achievements not only bring pride to our nation but also inspire our generation of women, demonstrating that one can reach great heights regardless of gender, religion, or tribe. Their success stories serve as potent reminders that visionary leadership can enable our talented youth to thrive and realize their full potential. In the New Nigeria, we envision a safe, secure, and productive nation where our youth can grow, excel on the global stage, and contribute to national development.
