Amidst preparations of November presidential election in the United States approaches, a recent poll by CNN and SSRS shows that ex-President Donald Trump is ahead of current President Joe Biden.
This lead is maintained despite Trump’s ongoing criminal trial in New York City, indicating a notable change in public opinion.
The poll reveals that 49% of registered voters would choose Trump over Biden, who has the support of 43%. Furthermore, 55% of Americans retrospectively view Trump’s presidency as successful, while 44% consider it a failure.
In contrast, Biden’s current term is viewed less favorably. Approximately 61% of Americans deem Biden’s term as unsuccessful, with only 39% seeing it as successful. This view is reinforced by consistent disapproval of his management of key issues such as the economy, healthcare, and international conflicts, especially the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza.
The poll also underscores a significant difference in party unity. An overwhelming 92% of Republican respondents see Trump’s presidency as successful, while Democratic support for Biden’s performance is comparatively lower at 73%.
Among independent voters, 51% view Trump’s term as successful, further strengthening his lead over Biden, who only receives approval from 37% of this group.
Economic issues continue to be a primary concern for many voters, who are more worried about the economy and inflation than in previous elections. Biden’s management of the economy and inflation has particularly low approval ratings, at 34% and 29% respectively, highlighting the difficulties he faces in securing support for a second term.
The survey also reveals some shared negative views of both presidencies, with 14% of Americans considering both Trump and Biden’s terms as failures. However, 47% of registered voters view Biden’s presidency as a failure while considering Trump’s as a success, signifying a substantial hurdle for Biden in his reelection bid.
