Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, recently expressed his deep concern over the recurring acts of violence in Uzo Uwani, a local government area in Enugu state.

He shared his thoughts via his social media handle, expressing his distress over the recent attack on innocent villagers.

Obi has a personal connection with Uzo Uwani, having supported the area for many years. He expressed his sorrow over the constant state of fear and terror that the residents have been forced to live in due to these relentless attacks.

He recalled an incident from 2015 when a fire completely destroyed the hostel of Mater Amabilis, one of the top secondary schools in the area. Upon hearing the news, Obi swiftly stepped in to rebuild the hostel, which was handed back to the school management by March 2016.

However, just a month later, the people of Nimbo Community in Uzo Uwani were brutally murdered in an attack that drew national attention. Obi, alongside the former Governor of Enugu State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, attended the victims’ funeral and aided in their rehabilitation.

Obi emphasized the need for the government to take a firm stand against these acts of violence and to prioritize the safety and security of its citizens. He highlighted the importance of Uzo Uwani as the state’s primary agricultural hub, warning that continued insecurity could significantly impact food production.

He urged security agencies to be more proactive in areas prone to such attacks and to take necessary measures to prevent future incidents. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the attack and prayed for the quick recovery of the wounded and for peace in the land.
