The Nigerian government has announced its plans to initiate domestic vehicle production before the year concludes.

This revelation was made by Doris Uzoka-Anite, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, during a meeting with the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers and the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association in Abuja on May 3.

Uzoka-Anite emphasized that financial resources have been allocated to bolster Nigeria’s automotive industry, specifically for local manufacturers. She stressed the importance of utilizing locally sourced materials for the production of Nigerian vehicles.

The minister took the opportunity to urge all relevant parties, including manufacturers, dealers, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders in the automotive sector, to align with the Nigerian Automotive Development Policy. This move is aimed at stimulating their contribution to the national economy.

The African Association of Automotive Manufacturers, headquartered in Johannesburg, South Africa, is committed to the industrial growth and evolution of the automotive sector throughout Africa. The association collaborates with governments to formulate policies, draw investors, and unlock the continent’s economic potential by advocating for sustainable and cost-effective mobility solutions.
