Peter Obi, the erstwhile presidential candidate of the Labour Party, in 2023 election took to his X handle to share his recent experience.

He had the distinct privilege and honour of speaking to a combined assembly of students from two prestigious UK universities – Cambridge University and Anglia Ruskin University. The topic of his discourse was “The Impact of African Leadership in Cultivating Global Citizenship and Social Responsibility”.

During this enlightening session, Obi delved into the concept of global citizenship. He emphasized our collective humanity and the interconnectedness that surpasses geographical boundaries, cultural differences, and ideological disparities. He underscored the pivotal role of leadership in fostering inclusivity, promoting tolerance, and facilitating global collaboration. He also highlighted the importance of nurturing global leaders who are committed to advancing human welfare.

Obi asserted that Nigeria, like other forward-thinking nations, can achieve global citizenship for its populace through strategic investments in human development. This can be gauged through the Human Development Index (HDI), which encompasses health, education, and poverty alleviation. When these crucial aspects of human development are prioritized by dedicated leadership, it can catalyze national transformation and spur sustainable development, benefiting humanity at large.

In his vision for a rejuvenated Nigeria, Obi reiterated his unwavering commitment to creating an environment that empowers every Nigerian, particularly the youth. This would enable them to contribute to national progress, make a significant impact on the global stage, and devise solutions to numerous global issues.

Obi expressed his gratitude to the event organizers for their initiative and the privilege of the invitation. He also thanked the audience for their engaging participation. He concluded with a hopeful note, affirming our collective efforts towards building a more humane world.
