The Federal Government has given its seal of approval to a reduction in electricity tariffs specifically aimed at Band A customers, denoting those enjoying a minimum daily supply of 20 hours.

This decision comes amidst widespread public discontent over the surge in electricity charges, which various stakeholders, including industry analysts, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and labor unions, have criticized as lacking empathy.

As per the newly sanctioned adjustment, Band A consumers, who were formerly billed at N225/Kwh, will now see a revised rate of N206.80/Kwh.

The move to slash tariffs likely stems from the mounting pressure and dissatisfaction expressed by the populace regarding the recent uptick in electricity costs. In a bid to address these concerns, Ikeja Electric, in a notice released to its clientele on Monday, announced the tariff reduction specifically for Band A feeders, ensuring a price drop from N225/kwh to N206.80/kwh, effective as of May 6, 2024. Moreover, this adjustment guarantees customers within this category a consistent daily power supply spanning between 20 to 24 hours.

While this revision spells relief for Band A customers, it’s important to note that tariff rates for Bands B, C, D, and E remain unaffected by this decision.
